5 for Life Early Childhood Coalition supports and promotes healthy development of 0-5 year olds and their family/caregivers in Strathmore and Wheatland County by providing activities, awareness, and connection to community resources.

What is an Early Childhood Development Coalition?
We are a group of individuals who have come together to actively promote positive early childhood development in the community. Coalitions are independent organizations, and work on behalf of their childhood development community.
The 5 for Life Early Childhood was formed in 2012 as a result of the ECMap Project (Early Child Development Mapping Project Alberta).

1 in 5 children in Strathmore & Wheatland County are experiencing difficulties in at least one developmental area by kindergarten.
What is the role of 5 for Life Early Childhood?
- To raise public awareness of the importance of the early years.
- To spark community interest in actively supporting healthy development.
- To support research and share local results within the community.
- To identify community resources and assets.
- To plan local initiatives to support young children and families.
- To apply for seed grants. Currently, 5 for Life Early Childhood is funded by an initial seed grant from the Alberta Government and other grants applied for within the community.

It is important for children to be supported by family and community in order to reach their optimal development in the following 5 areas:

- Communication Skills and General Knowledge
